Aerial Evolution Association of Canada (AEAC) - Student UAS competition, Southport Manitoba
10 Teams from across Canada travelled to Southport Manitoba for the 2022 UAS (drone) competition over 3 days (May 6-8, 2022). Aerial Evolution Association of Canada / Association pour l’Évolution Aéreinne du Canada – AEAC has launched its 13th Annual Student Competition. The purpose of the annual competition is to Promote and develop Canadian expertise and experience in unmanned systems technologies at the university and college levels. In 2022 the SCENARIO: A foreign embassy in Ottawa hired a company to protect their buildings and extensive grounds from intruders and suspicious items. TASKS: 1. Device Detection and Disposal, 2. Detection and Tracking of Perimeter Intruder. Strong winds, multiple failures and success and a smattering of wiring harness were among the highlights of the weekend. Ryerson University took First place with University of British Columbia Okanagan in 2nd and Sherbrooke University in 3rd. We are always looking for sponsorship to keep this completion moving forward. 2023 Competition will be held May 5-7 at Le Centre d’excellence sur les drones – CED Alma, QC. This year’s scenario introduces a new concept with an eVTOL (scaled) UAS competition. A Big City would like to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of downtown passenger transit, and requests bids to develop and demonstrate an Urban Air Mobility System (UAMS) sub- scale prototype. University and college teams from across Canada, are invited as industry Bidders, to create concepts, design a UAM System, and compete in a sub-scale assessment of their designs and participate in head-to-head flight assessments.
