AIRS™ Basic License

Our AIRS™ Basic Training program offers a comprehensive blend of theory-based instruction and hands-on learning, led by expert instructors from Stinson Aerial Services Inc. This course meets all Transport Canada requirements, covering critical areas such as regulatory frameworks, drone safety, flight planning, emergency procedures, and navigation.

Why AIRS™ Basic?

AIRS Basic Training is designed to equip you with essential, real-world drone skills. The program emphasizes translating theory into practical scenarios, with hands-on joystick training. You’ll graduate with genuine, applicable skills—not just textbook knowledge, just like a manned aviation pilot.

  • 40 hours of immersive training, including both classroom and field sessions
  • Dedicated time to prepare for and write the Basic Pilot exam with instructors (Fees covered for initial attempt)
  • Practical training in a variety of environments and weather conditions
  • Real-world flight scenarios to ensure readiness for any situation

  • 40 Hours of Training over 5 days with two experienced instructors.
  • Introductory Conference Call with students and instructors to prepare for training.
  • Pre-reading material and access to our online ground school study tool for 4 weeks
  • Real-world flight day simulations in chosen locations to test your skills in practical scenarios.
  • Guidance for the Transport Canada Basic Exam, with fees covered for the initial attempt.

What are the privileges of holding a Basic License?

With a Basic License, you must adhere to many rules when flying drones, but the general privileges include the ability to:

  • Operate drones weighing between 250 grams and 25 kilograms (registration required)
  • Fly at altitudes below 120 meters above ground level (AGL)
  • Fly up to 30 meters of people, buildings, and infrastructure
    - Never fly over people
  • Fly up to 3 nautical miles from an airport or 1 nautical mile from a heliport
  • Fly in uncontrolled airspace only

Transport Canada Requirements:

  • Must be at least 14 years old
  • Pass the Basic Operations online exam
  • Apply for the certificate through Transport Canada
  • Carry your pilot certificate while operating

AIRS Training Program Requirements:

  • No prior drone experience required – designed for complete beginners
  • Valid Canadian-issued ID
  • Basic understanding of English (written and spoken)
  • For online: Computer or tablet with internet access
